Boston keratoprosthesis (Boston KPro) is a collar button design keratoprosthesisor artificial cornea. It is composed of a front plate with a stem (which houses the optical portion of the device), a back plate, and a titanium locking c-ring.

Dry eye is a condition in which a person does not have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision. Dry eye is a common and often chronic problem, particularly in older adults.

Exposure keratopathy (EK) is damage to the cornea that occurs primarily from prolonged exposure of the ocular surface to the outside environment. EK can lead to ulceration, microbial keratitis, and permanent vision loss from scarring.
